Sherin Aminossehe
Her two main passions are drawing and buildings. She’s been drawing since she could hold a pencil and therefore it’s probably no surprise that she trained as an architect and have worked across the globe. Her day job is the Ministry of Defence's first Director of Infrastructure, responsible for the strategic oversight for both global and domestic infrastructure and the Defence Estate Optimisation Portfolio worth over £5bn. She is also proud to be the MoD Race Champion.
She’s worked in both private and public sectors in Lendlease, HOK and Farrell and Partners. In Cabinet Office, She held the dual role of Executive Director of Government Property Unit and Head of Property Profession and Function for the Civil Service. She led, devised and executed the property strategy for government, looking at how their assets could be used effectively to create growth through programmes such as the One Public Estate programme, which has a particular focus on creating more homes and jobs.
When she’s not working, she likes nothing more than a cup of Earl Grey and her sketchbook by her side. She recently published a book, “The Road Untravelled”, which began life as her personal response to the geographical constraints of the COVID-19 lockdown – a drawing a day, providing relief from the daily routine of work and home-schooling. However, on a friend’s advice it became a much more, as she began to do commissions in return for a charitable donation to SSAFA for people unable to travel, offering an escape to longed for locations.
Finally, she is also a trustee of the Imperial War Museum and has won the Asian Women of Achievement Awards in the inaugural Real Estate, Infrastructure and Construction Category. She has been in Property Week’s Power 100, 40 under 40 and Bisnow’s 51 Most Influential Women in UK Real Estate. Recently She was awarded an honorary doctorate from UCEM for her contributions to the built environment.
